Self Drilling Screws

SDS Truss Head Screws

Wide flat head for thin sheet and framing

The truss head is wide and flat. That large head spreads the pressure over more area, so the screw will not pull through thin sheet or soft board.

What it is used for

Use this screw when the material is thin or soft and a normal screw head would pull straight through it.

Thin metal sheet

The wide head grips without tearing through 0.5 mm sheet.

Metal framing

Joining studs, tracks and channels in partition and ceiling work.

Under boards

Sits almost flat, so board can be fixed over the top without packing.

Ducting and trays

Holds thin sheet sections together in HVAC and cable tray work.

Overview

It also sits almost flush with the surface, so a board or panel can pass over the top of it without catching.

This is the screw for metal framing, ceiling channels, ducting and anywhere the material is too thin for a normal head.

Twice the grip area

The wide head spreads the load over about double the area of a normal head.

Sits nearly flat

Board and panels slide over the fixing without needing to be packed out.

Neat finish

The smooth rounded head looks tidy where fixings are visible.

Kind to soft board

Much less likely to crush gypsum or fibre cement board.

Section 1 — Installation

How to fit it

The wide head is the whole point of this screw, so the aim is to land it flat and stop before it dents the material.

  1. 1

    Keep the driver straight

A wide head driven at an angle only touches on one edge, which defeats the purpose.

  2. 2

    Use medium speed

About 1,500 to 2,200 rpm. There is no benefit in going faster on thin material.

  3. 3

Stop when the head touches all round

The moment the whole head is sitting flat, stop. Going further dents the sheet.

  4. 4

    Follow the fixing spacing

Use the spacing the sheet or board maker recommends, not a rule of thumb.

Section 2 — Applications

SDS Truss Head — questions we get asked

What is the difference between truss head and wafer head?

Nothing — they are two names for the same wide, low head. Both terms are used in the Indian market.

Why use truss head instead of a normal head?

Because it spreads the load. On thin sheet or soft board, a narrow head pulls straight through. A truss head holds.

Can I use these for roofing sheet?

Not for the sheet itself — they have no rubber washer, so the hole would leak. Use them for the framing behind the sheet.

What length do I need for 0.8 mm sheet on 1.6 mm track?

8 x 16 mm is the usual choice for that combination. Confirm your track thickness before ordering in quantity.
