Self Drilling Hex Head Screws — Xylan Coated
For coastal, humid and colour-matched roofing
Same screw as the zinc plated hex, but with a Xylan coating baked on top. Xylan is a tough paint-like fluoropolymer layer that gives better corrosion protection than plain zinc plating, which is why it is used on coastal, humid and rooftop jobs.

What it is used for
Use this screw where a plain zinc screw would rust too soon, or where the screw heads will be seen.
Near the coast
Salty air destroys plain zinc screws in two or three years. Xylan lasts far longer.
Humid and rainy areas
Holds up to long monsoons and constant damp much better than zinc.
Colour matched roofs
We can supply the screws in your sheet colour so they blend in.
Chemical and food plants
Resists washdown chemicals and acidic air.
Overview
Use it where the air is salty, damp or full of chemicals — and anywhere the screws will be visible, because we can match the colour to your roofing sheet.
It also drives more easily than a plain screw, which matters when your crew is putting in a few thousand of them.
Built for harsh sites
A baked fluoropolymer coating made for coastal air, humidity and rooftops, where plain zinc gives up early.
Easier to drive
The coating is slippery, so the screw goes in with less effort and the bit lasts longer.
Matches your sheet
Supplied in the colour of your roofing sheet so the fixings are not visible from the ground.
Handles chemicals
Stands up to mild acids, cleaning chemicals and sunlight.

Technical documentation
Exact specifications vary between manufacturers and production batches. Tell us the job and we will confirm the specification before despatch, and send the manufacturer’s datasheet or test certificate for the batch if you need it for a submittal.
Section 1 — Installation
How to fit it
Fitting is the same as any roofing screw, with one difference: the coating is what protects the screw, so the aim is to fit it without damaging that coating.

- 1
Use a clean socket of the right size
A worn or loose socket scrapes the coating off the head — exactly where water will sit. Replace sockets as soon as they start rounding off.
- 2
Drive a little slower
Around 1,500 to 2,000 rpm. Too much speed creates heat that can soften the coating.
- 3
Do not push too hard
The coating is slippery, so the screw pulls itself in. Forcing it strips the thread in thin steel.
- 4
Stop when the washer spreads
Same as any roofing screw. Over-tightening squeezes out the rubber and rubs coating off the head.
- 5
Replace any damaged screws
If a head gets scratched during fitting, change it. On a coloured roof a scratched screw becomes a rust mark running down the sheet.
Section 2 — Applications
Where it is used
Anywhere plain zinc will not last long enough, and anywhere the screws will be visible on a finished building.

Coastal buildings
Sites near the sea along Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
Colour coated roofs
Buildings where the fixings must match the sheet colour.
Food and pharma plants
Areas washed down with chemicals regularly.
Chemical factories
Roofing over process areas with acidic fumes.
Solar mounting
Rooftop solar frames, where replacing a rusted screw later is slow and expensive.
Cold storage
Insulated panel fixing where condensation is constant.
SDS Xylan Coated — questions we get asked
Is Xylan really better than zinc plating?
Yes. Xylan is a baked-on fluoropolymer coating and gives noticeably better corrosion protection than standard zinc plating, which is why it is used on coastal, humid and rooftop jobs. For a dry inland shed, zinc is still fine and costs less. Ask us for the manufacturer's coating data if you need the figures for a specification.
Can you match the screws to my roofing sheet colour?
Yes. Send us the sheet brand and shade, or a small offcut, and we will supply screws and washer caps in that colour. Lead time is usually 10 to 15 days.
Are the sizes the same as the zinc plated screws?
Yes, the same range from 10 x 19 mm to 12 x 150 mm. If you need something outside that, we can make it to order.
How close to the sea can I use these?
They work well in most coastal areas. If the building is right on the shoreline or in a marine setting, ask us about bi-metal stainless screws instead.
